Library and Information Week
City of Rockingham 13 May 2019

Library and Information Week will be held from 20–26 May 2019 and is an initiative from the Australian Library and Information Association that aims to showcase the range of services on offer at libraries.

Events National Simultaneous Story Time

The City will be hosting three major events as part of Library and Information Week.  The first, National Simultaneous Story Time, will be held at Rockingham Centre in the Kids Zone near ANZ Bank on Wednesday 22 May from 9am–10am.

National Simultaneous Story Time will feature members of the public, a school class from Bungaree Primary School and the Paint Rockingham REaD mascot WiDi, all reading the same book as other groups from across the country at the same time.

Mary Davies Library and Community Centre

Meanwhile, on 22 May the Mary Davies Library and Community Centre in Baldivis will be hosting its own National Simultaneous Story Time event that will include craft, rhymes and great stories.

Rockingham Central Library

On Thursday 23 May 2019 the City will host Pyjama Story Time at Rockingham Central Library from 4pm–6pm. Running for the fourth year in a row, Pyjama Story Time will feature a cuddly animal farm, scavenger hunt, tech displays and a group reading activity.

City of Rockingham Mayor Barry Sammels encouraged the community to embrace the activities taking place during Library and Information Week.

"The City of Rockingham’s four libraries are filled with valuable information, entertainment and activities for residents of all ages to enjoy," Mayor Sammels said.

"During Library and Information Week 2019 the City will be hosting two events that highlight the significant role both reading and libraries play in our community. I encourage residents of all ages to get involved with these activities and celebrate the importance libraries have in our City."

The theme for Library and Information Week 2019 is Truth, Integrity, Knowledge (TIK). This theme recognises the ways that librarians and libraries support and further these ideals.
