Vandals have destroyed a railing and bench seat overnight at the historic Band Rotunda in Lissner Park.

This recent attack on public property joins the ever-increasing list of damage to facilities within the past 12 months.

Mayor Liz Schmidt expressed her anger at the recent vandalism. “Vandalism is a huge cost to ratepayers! It’s senseless damage and very frustrating.

“The Rotunda is a historic asset to our community which was built in 1902. When someone destroys public property, it comes at a financial and emotional cost. It’s a real hit to our community pride. We don’t need vandals working against us.”

“The police have been contacted and Council will seek prosecution of those responsible,” said Mayor Schmidt.

Repairs will take some time to complete, due to the Rotunda’s historic listing. Council will need to seek advice from the State Government to ensure work meets heritage requirements. The damage is estimated to cost in excess of $5000.

Council encourages residents to report any incidents of vandalism to Council on 4761 5300 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or https://www.crimestoppersqld.com.au
