Shire of Donnybrook Balingup President Brian Piesse welcomed the Hon Ken Wyatt AM MP, Minister for Senior Australians, Aged Care and Indigenous Health and Nola Marino MP, Federal Member for Forrest and Chief Government Whip to Tuia Lodge this week as part of the recent announcement to expand the Shire’s aged care facility.

“Our Government is passionate about ensuring all Australians have access to quality aged care services, regardless of where they live,” said Minister for Senior Australians and Aged Care Ken Wyatt AM.

Tuia Lodge was awarded $1.45 million of grant money to develop a 10 bed wing for residents living with dementia. The funding will also be used to refurbish an existing space at the Lodge to become a single palliative care suite that will be available for the resident and their family to use for private interaction.

“This will be a valuable asset for the Donnybrook community and the entire South West,” said Member for Forrest Nola Marino.

It was the first visit to Tuia Lodge for The Minister for Senior Australians and Aged Care Ken Wyatt AM who took the opportunity to thank staff at the Lodge for their compassion and commitment to their role as carers for the aged care residents.

Cr Piesse said, given the thrust of the Shire’s Aging in Place vision, yesterday’s announcement was significant in that it represented a 25% increase in the accommodation offering at Tuia Lodge. The foresight and passion of the community group that came together in 1973 which culminated in a 10 bed facility being built in 1985, should never be forgotten.
