Albury rocks in Youth Week

Highlights of the week (10 April to 18 April) will include stories, music, competitions and sport.

Youth Week in Albury will begin on Wednesday 10 April with the launch of the Beyond YOLO podcast which shares stories of strength and resilience through the real-life experiences of local young people.

The Addicted band competition will return for a ninth year on Friday 12 April, giving local musicians a chance to show off their talents and be in the running for major prizes.

On 16 April, Retro will host the Atomic Albury music event, featuring five local musicians creating awareness of drug and alcohol abuse in the community. Service providers will be on site to help anyone who needs advice or assistance.

An outside wall of the café will become a giant screen on Wednesday the 17th when the Nextwave Youth Week Film Festival is held, showcasing the best short films made by young regional film makers. It’s a free event and will be followed later in the year by workshops to get next year’s entrants started.

Also on Wednesday, young people will test their touch football skills at the Gindaymanha Sports Carnival at Bonnie Doone Oval in West Albury. This free day out also includes a jewellery making workshop, a live DJ and arts and crafts.

AlburyCity’s Deputy Mayor Amanda Cohn said the program of events would celebrate the incredible talents of the region’s young people.

“Youth Week is about fun, creativity and nurturing the growth of our next generation of leaders – the young people of Albury and surrounds,” she said.

“Our young people are doing some amazing things in our community and it’s great to be part of programs that will recognise and support their passions and talents.”
