The Central Queensland region was well-represented among some of the country’s best innovators, entrepreneurs and startups during this week’s inaugural QODE event in Brisbane.

Pronounced ‘Code’, QODE aims to be a live and energetic experience focused on delivering inspirational content to the start-up and entrepreneurial community, bringing together leaders from the AI (artificial intelligence) ecosystem, entrepreneurs, investors, and tech professionals from the world’s leading tech companies, startups and VCs.

Local business owners Melanie Wood from Speaking Styles, Stacey Hughes from CQ Nutrition and Livingstone Shire Council’s Principal Economic Development and Innovation Officer Sonia Barber were chosen to attend QODE2019 as delegates to take part in a Regional Innovation Showcase from the Fitzroy Region, supported by Central Highlands District Corporation and Advance QLD.

Melanie said Speaking Styles was created to help people become pro communicators through one on one coaching and workshops.

“Speaking Styles is building an online E-Learning Centre to offer services locally, nationally and internationally to support start-ups, businesses and governments when promoting, pitching and communicating their ideas, products and services,” Melanie said.

Deputy Mayor and Council’s Digital Economy and Innovation Champion Councillor Nigel Hutton said the QODE2019 experience offered a fantastic opportunity to showcase our region and its strong potential in the startup world.

“This expo created an opportunity for these two local businesses and Council to get in front of an engaged and motivated audience of business decision makers, investors and entrepreneurs, all in one place,” Cr Hutton said.

“Hearing the fantastic feedback from Melanie, Stacey and Sonia was encouraging and will hopefully help in generating more future thinking within our community, especially within our newly-established CAPreneurs startup group.

“Council would like to thank the Central Highlands District Corporation and Advance QLD for facilitating the delegation to attend QODE2019.”
