Briefing information for professional benchmarking organisations

Alice Springs identity and Alice Springs Town Council introduction

Alice Springs Town Council is considered to be the heart and soul of Central Australia.  It is the third largest town in the Northern Territory and has a population of approximately 28,500.

Given Alice Springs’ strategic geographic location, it is the government, retail, sports and health services hub for the southern half of the Northern Territory, as well as remote parts of South Australia and Western Australia.

Alice Springs Town Council is “a dynamic Council”.  It is focussed upon being “a well governed Council that leads by example, advocates for our community, innovates, delivers excellent services, and works with others collaboratively to help create the community we want to live in”, as set out in the Alice Springs Town Council Strategic Plan 2018-2021.

Alice Springs Town Council services an area of 328 square kilometres and comprises a dedicated workforce of 194 staff (including part time and contract personnel).  Team members work to deliver municipal services, community and cultural development activities, compliance as well as health, wellbeing and lifelong learning initiatives across multiple sites including, but not limited to, the Civic Centre, Alice Springs Aquatic and Leisure Centre, Alice Springs Public Library and depot.

Research opportunity

Alice Springs Town Council’s Strategic Plan 2018-2021 stipulates that “the CEO will undertake benchmarking of the organisational culture, values and behaviour in 2018/19 and will establish strategies and targets as required”.

Alice Springs Town Council seeks expressions of interest from suitably qualified organisations or individuals, to undertake benchmarking exercises.  Proposals should include extensive methodology, costing and timeline information, whilst complying with Council’s prescribed research and reporting deadlines.  Surveying, interviews and preliminary data collection must be completed by 30 June 2019.  This will then inform development of a final report, comprising in-house strategies and organisation wide stretch targets, by 30 August 2019.

For more information, telephone Rex Mooney, CEO: 0427 161 956.  Expressions of interest can be e-mailed to: [email protected] and close Monday 11 March 2019
