Councillor Column - What's new in Maylands
City of Bayswater 20 Feb 2019

Further improvements are underway for the bustling retail and dining streets of Maylands. A second round of artwork will soon be showcased on planter boxes as part of the City's Art on Eighth project; celebrating the incredible creative talent of Maylands.

A water refill station has just been installed on Eighth Avenue near Whatley Crescent to reduce our environmental impact and support people walking and cycling to our town centre. Provided by Water Corporation, the station offers a drink fountain as well as the option to refill your own bottle with filtered water instead of buying single-use plastic.

You might have noticed new parking signs installed in the town centre over the past few days as part of the first stage of the Maylands Car Parking Strategy. Most bays now have a two hour limit to allow visitors to take a full advantage of the nearby shops, cafés and services. Bays with shorter time limits are also provided for quick visits like picking up a coffee or prescription. The signage and poles have been freshened-up to tie in with the streetscape.

Don’t forget: the Maylands Laneway Festival (at Lyric Lane) is on Saturday 23 February, from 5.30pm – 8pm.
