Keep Recycling, Baw Baw!

Published on 20 February 2019

Baw Baw Shire residents are encouraged to keep recycling as usual with Council’s service contract unaffected by recent industry developments.

Last Thursday, the Environment Protection Authority (EPA) issued a shutdown notice to SKM Recycling – one of three main recycling processors in Victoria – preventing further receipt of recyclable materials at two of their three sites in Coolaroo and Laverton.

Polytrade, who process recyclables collected by our kerbside waste contractor Solo Resource Recovery, is operating as usual.

Quotes attributable to Director Community Infrastructure Cohen Van der Velde

“I can confirm that none of Baw Baw’s recyclables are being sent to landfill. Polytrade is continuing to process recycling materials, so it’s business as usual for them. This is a timely reminder of the importance of mindful recycling and we encourage our community to keep up the good work minimising waste going to landfill.”
