Nominations now open for Balonne Young Leaders Bursary
Balonne Shire Council 20 Feb 2019

Council is urging young people who serve our community and want to improve themselves through further training to apply for the $1500 Balonne Young Leaders Bursary.

Balonne Shire Mayor Richard Marsh said the bursary celebrated the achievements of youth in the community.

“This is all about recognising those who make a positive contribution and are emerging as leaders in our community,” he said.

“We believe our youth’s achievements should be celebrated and we want to help them reach their personal goals.

“This bursary will recognise up to four people who have achieved outstanding success in their education or training and who have also made a significant contribution in the form of service to the community.”

Cr Marsh encouraged residents to read the bursary guidelines and nominate a deserving young person.

“There are four categories – Junior Female (15-18), Junior Male (15-18), Senior Female (19-30) and Senior Male (19-30) – and I believe our shire has quite a number of youth that are out there doing their very best, both for themselves and the community, that would appreciate some help,” he said.

“All Council asks in return is for the winners to provide information about the experiences gained as a result of receiving these funds.”

Last year’s winners were Harry Scriven (Junior Male), Reeghyn Beardmore (Junior Female) and Maggie Stewart (Senior Female).

The Balonne Young Leaders Bursary guidelines and nomination form can be downloaded. Self-nominations will also be accepted.

Winners of the Balonne Young Leaders Bursary will receive $1500 each to assist with the financial cost to undertake further professional or personal development training.

Nominations close Monday, 8 March 2019 at 4pm. For more information, contact the Community Development Officer on 07 4620 8880 or [email protected]
