It’s all about sharing the love at your local library throughout February, as Livingstone celebrates the national event, Library Lovers' Day 2019!

Library Lovers’ Day is a chance for everyone to reconnect with the library and share the library love which will be held not only on 14 February, but throughout the entire month with several promotions and competitions on offer for local library users.

The initiative, coordinated by the Australian Library and Information Association (ALIA), aims to raise the profile of the services which libraries offer.

This year’s theme, Library Love Stories, is encouraging readers to write a story of 200 words or less written from the concept of, ‘there was love to be found in the library’.

Brave book worms are also being dared to go on a Blind Date with a Book this month as part of the annual event. Readers are encouraged to put their trust in fate and choose a book without knowing the title, and those who enter will go in the draw to win some sweet chocolate treats.

Library, Arts and Culture Councillor Pat Eastwood said Council’s public libraries provide a hub of quality information services that support lifelong learning, with many positive impacts on our community.

“Our regions local libraries provide access to a wide range of information and resources which have been carefully curated and meet our resident’s needs,” Cr Eastwood said.

“Not everyone can always afford to buy all the books or resources they need or want, but what some residents may not know is that the library makes these free to borrow — whether that is an ebook, an audio book, a DVD, CD or some other resource.

“Our libraries have also evolved into a social space to meet, collaborate, research, learn, share and relax, which is so important in creating a progressive and positive community.

“At the library, community groups meet, workshops are taught, new skills are learnt, study groups can meet, games can be played, and technology can be used to create. “Council is extremely proud to be able to offer such a quality service for our community to enjoy, and I encourage more residents to join.”

Blind Date with a Book review cards are due by Thursday, 28 February 2019 to go in the prize draw.

Participating libraries include Yeppoon (John St), Emu Park and Byfield. Find out about competitions and more chances to win at the library on Council’s website at http://www.livingstone.qld.gov.au/168/Libraries or Facebook page.
