Works notification - Jack Bobridge Track

Jack Bobridge Track Rehabilitation – Sandy Creek

Council is closely monitoring the Jack Bobridge Track in relation to re-emerging cracking issues between Cockatoo Lane and the Sandy Creek-Williamstown Road.

Due to very reactive soils in the area, the track had become extremely undulating and cracked last year, and works were programmed to remedy the 0.5km section of track as part of Council’s 2018-19 capital works program.

Specialist engineering support was engaged to provide treatment solutions to Council.

Works were undertaken in line with the advice received. The track rehabilitation work included the use of a “Tensar geogrid” product to help bridge the highly reactive soils underneath and limit further cracking and undulation of the new track surface.

However, due to the extremely prolonged dry weather period being experienced in South Australia this summer, the highly reactive Black Earth soils are shrinking a significant amount which is causing some new cracking issues in the recently completed works.

Council is monitoring the situation closely and working with its civil contractor and the engineering consultant to analyse the problem and determine what corrective actions may be necessary going forward.

Council will  continue to keep the community informed when new information becomes available.
