'Histropix #3' by Vanghoua Anthony Vue

Wednesday, February 6 – Sunday, February 10, 2019 In celebration of BrisAsia Festival 2019, Vanghoua Anthony Vue’s artwork, Histropix # 3 will be projected onto the William Jolly Bridge from 6-10 and 20-24 February 2019. Vue’s practice re-contextualises his Hmong heritage within his Australian upbringing and experience. Histropix involves the digital manipulation and exaggerated pixilation of the artist’s family photographs from Thailand. These have been built up in several layers, with pixels of various sizes and colours blocking and revealing the original photographic image. In this way, Histropix reflects on obscured stories that have been blocked out, lost or incorporated into broader narratives of history. The work also explores the disintegration of historical records and the way that new technology assists or hinders the recollection of these stories. Vue is a Brisbane-based artist, currently completing his PhD at the Queensland College of Art, Griffith University. BrisAsia Festival is an annual festival that showcases contemporary and traditional Asian arts, cultural programs and events. The program provides professional and sector development opportunities for Brisbane-based creatives who have a strong interest in the Asian region and are engaged in associated creative practice. In 2019 BrisAsia Festival runs from 9 February to 3 March with an exciting and diverse program of over 100 events.
