The Campaspe Regional Library Service, in partnership with Community Living and Respite Services, will be offering Sensitive Santa sessions on Saturday, 8 and Sunday, 9 December to children with autism.

Library Services Manager Jenny Mustey said Sensitive Santa provides an opportunity for an important, valued and unique family experience.

“These sessions allow autistic children who often miss out on a visit to Santa, to experience the joy of the jolly old fellow at Christmas time,” Ms Mustey said.

For some children, Santa can be confronting or have a myriad of triggers that may cause a child distress. It could be crowds, bright lights, loud music, or even long queues that may prevent a child from enjoying interaction with Santa.

“All families want to capture special memories at Christmas time and the Sensitive Santa program provides a more tailored approach for families, taking into consideration the interests of the child and other family members,” Ms Mustey said.

Sessions last for around 25 minutes, and all family members are welcome. Photographs will be taken on the day and provided to each family on a USB stick.

A short phone interview with each family will take place prior to the sessions to make it the best experience for the family.

“This is the third year Sensitive Santa will be offered due to the positive feedback received year on year,” Ms Mustey said.

Bookings are essential as sessions are limited. For more information please contact Donna McManus (CLRS) on 5480 2388.
