FREE Green waste drop-off days are coming!

Cardinia Shire Mayor Cr Collin Ross said Council was pleased to be offering the free service to residents again in 2018 after its successful trial last November.

“After receiving great community feedback from the trial delivered last year as part of Council’s Waste and Resource Recovery Strategy (2017–26), this event will continue to be run in 2018 and 2019. The green waste drop-off events assist residents to dispose of their green waste properly and are a good reminder to start cleaning up around our properties to reduce bushfire risk ahead of the summer season,” said Cr Ross.

The green waste drop-off events are a free service assisting Cardinia Shire households to dispose of residential amounts of green waste for free, including: flowers, garden prunings, grass clippings, leaves, tree branches and trunks (up to 30 centimetres wide and 1 metre long), and weeds.

Items not accepted include: rocks, soil, building and renovation waste, treated timber, plant pots, food, general waste or recycling and garden waste in bags.

Residents must present photo ID as proof of residence within Cardinia Shire to access the free service. Waste will only be accepted from residential vehicles and trailers, and commercial business operators cannot use this service.

The green waste will be shredded and taken to a composting facility. It will then be broken down and turned into high-quality soil conditioner to help grow food in Victoria.
