Council careful with clearing native vegetation

Ipswich City Council says it is an unfortunate reality that native vegetation often needs to be cleared to make way for urban development, including both new housing sites and schools.

This has certainly been the case at Collingwood Park, where the accompanying aerial photographs show the extent of land clearing that occurred for the WoodLinks State School

.

A council spokesperson said the clearing that is occurring for the latest residential development near the school is being supervised by State Government licensed fauna spotters and catchers and is in accordance with the relevant State and Local Government approvals.

“The ecological report submitted with the clearing application identifies that the vegetation at the front of the site, along the Woodlinks Way frontage, has had a high level of disturbance by human and pest species activity and as such has little ecological value,’’ the spokesperson said.

“The most significant vegetation is located along the creek. This vegetation will be protected within council parkland and is also required to be further rehabilitated with additional planting by the developer.”
