CITY OF CANADA BAY UNLEASHES PLAN FOR DOG PARKS

City of Canada Bay Mayor Angelo Tsirekas today announced a plan for two landmark dog off-leash area trials for the City of Canada Bay.

“In recent weeks I have heard from and met with residents who need more space in our area for their dogs to roam freely.” Mayor Tsirekas said. “I’ve also received many letters and calls of concern from residents who want to feel safe from roaming dogs in our parks.”

“I am thrilled to announce today that the City of Canada Bay has committed to building a City-wide plan for our canine companions. I believe we can come up with a solution that is a win-win for all.”

“The first step will be to trial two new off-leash parks in areas that have been identified as high demand for dog owners,” Mayor Tsirekas said.

“We want to provide spaces where our furry friends can roam freely whilst giving peace of mind for parents and grandparents who want youngsters to play in our beautiful parks away from dogs off-leash,” Mayor Tsirekas said.

An area in Rhodes and a section of Kendall Park in Cabarita and have been pinpointed as potential locations and following community consultation, the City of Canada Bay will roll out the two off-leash area trials.

Alongside these trials, Council plans to identify further dog parks across the City.

“I want the City of Canada Bay to be one of Sydney’s most dog friendly Councils,” Mayor Tsirekas said.

“This means not only working in partnership with dog owners as well as residents who are not pet owners. Our amazing open green spaces are the heartbeat of our community and we need to make sure everyone can share them.”
