Notice from Taswater
Huon Valley Council 22 May 2018
Rocky Creek pigging and flushing program

Rocky Creek’s new treated water supply is close to completion. As construction progresses on TasWater’s new treatment plant to supply customers on the Rocky Creek water system, work is beginning on upgrading the reticulation network.

Before water from the new treatment plant can flow, TasWater needs to carry out a process of pigging and flushing. Using specialised equipment, it involves running a foam slug (the Pig) through the pipes which in effect scours the walls of the pipe to dislodge biofilm and dirt that has accumulated over a period of time. The system is then flushed to remove the dirty water through scour points throughout the system.

This cleaning work will help ensure the Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) testing can be completed in the shortest time frame possible to allow the removal of the Boil Water Alert (BWA) and enable residents to drink clean safe water directly from the tap. The Pigging and Flushing will be carried out in four stages involving disruption to Rocky Creek water supplies from now until the second week of June. There will be intermittent interruptions between 8:30 in the morning until 4:30 in the afternoon as each area is pigged and flushed. Details under Schedules below.

Notices informing customers of the times they can expect interruptions have been letter box dropped and mailed and will continue to be issued as we progress with this work.

Bottled drinking water will be available at the Grove store for each day of the interruptions.
