Residents can soon play popular local sports, badminton and table tennis, with Council investing more than $100,000 to upgrade Cabravale Memorial Park near the Cabramatta City Centre.

There are now two striking green professional-sized badminton courts in the park along with custom built seats that contain a locker for the local badminton club to store posts and nets.

Council has also installed a custom built permanent table tennis table for the residents and visitors to use.

Fairfield City Mayor Frank Carbone said Council was building recreational precincts to better cater for active recreation as well as a places to relax.

“We are building recreational precincts across where families can come together and get active and healthy,” Mayor Carbone said.

“Cabravale Memorial Park has always been a great spot to take time out from the hustle and bustle and relax, catch up with friends, read a book, or just watch the world go by for a while.

“Park users can still relax, but now have the opportunity to be more active too with the addition of the badminton courts and table tennis table as well as the existing basketball court and outdoor fitness equipment.

“With backyards getting smaller and life busier, Council’s vision to provide a variety of recreational areas and opportunities for residents to lead healthy lifestyles is more important than ever.”

Other improvements include the installation of a Sydney Water refill station that park users can use to refill water bottles easily. It also has a bubbler and a ‘dog-bowl’ feature where dogs on leads can easily access fresh water.

A fence was installed to match the heritage green bollards and garden beds were replanted.

A self-cleaning Exeloo was also installed recently to replace the disused toilet block, which has been demolished.
