Body cameras to improve safety for Council officers and the community
City of Boroondara 22 Jan 2018

Starting today, Council’s parking officers will be equipped with body cameras as part of an initiative aimed at improving the safety of the officers and the wider community.

Unfortunately, it is common for our parking officers to report verbal abuse or even physical attacks while at work.

As with any workplace, enforcement officers – parking officers, animal management and local laws officers – are entitled to protection against health and safety risks.

The body camera, which is attached to an officer’s uniform, is clearly visible to everyone and will be used mainly in public places. We have developed a policy and put processes in place to ensure the safety and privacy of the community.

Any personal information (footage) we capture will be protected from misuse, loss, unauthorised access, modification or disclosure. All personal information will be destroyed or permanently de-identified when it is no longer needed for any purpose.
