About the Project

Like many small regional communities sport plays a major role in the way of life for a majority of Loxton local residents. The town has a strong focus on many sports including football, netball, basketball, tennis, volleyball as well as a large range of other competitive sporting pursuits. 

In 2013 Loxton Waikerie Council commissioned a sporting precinct masterplan to consider the potential to redevelop an entire sporting precinct, due to the ageing existing facilities. From the information provided by the master plan a concept design for stage one of the project was developed. The concept design incorporates a two indoor multi use court stadium, six outdoor courts, two undercover bowling greens, complete with a state of the art mezzanine and upstairs viewing decks, all tied in with the Loxton football oval.

A budget of $11.8m has been predicted together with $0.425m which was previously committed for investigative work and design development.

Council will fund the project via grants totalling $6.354m, $3.475m from cash reserves and take loan funds for the balance of $2.396m

Importantly, Council has reassessed its long term financial management plan and taking into account all other known considerations can deliver the Project without need to increase rating effort above existing projections in the financial management plan.

Project Scope

Council has adopted a design for the Loxton Recreation Centre Project following independent financial assessment of both the capital and operational costs, which have also been considered by Council’s Audit Committee.

The Project includes:

Demolition of the existing recreation centre, outdoor netball / basketball courts, disused tennis courts, football change rooms, residential dwelling, outbuildings and trees. Construction of:  A stadium incorporating two indoor multi use courts, meeting rooms, café   facility, tiered indoor seating, multi purpose change rooms to service the stadium and outdoor playing areas and a mezzanine level function area that connects to the existing grandstand covered by a new canopy roof structure (stage 1 of the Project does not include a fit out of the mezzanine floor but does make provision for the installation of services  Six outdoor multi use netball / basketball / tennis courts, two carparks and associated landscaping Two under cover synthetic lawn bowling greens (eight rinks each). The greens are to have a seamless link to the adjacent Loxton Club, as the Club will be providing a portion of its facility as a club house for the Bowling Club. Whilst it is proposed that this portion of stage 1 will be constructed concurrently with the recreation centre to provide opportunities for cost and construction efficiencies, the costs associated with the bowling facility will be separately accounted for as this portion of the Project will be leased to the Loxton Bowling Club under a separate funding model Related Documents
