Cr Hayes, who is in his second term on Council, was also duly elected as Deputy Mayor for 12 months. Newly elected councillor Jane Evans and re-elected councillor Jennifer Mahoney were apologies and will be sworn in at the next ordinary council meeting. In delivering his mayoral address, Mayor Edgington, who has a long history of living and working in the Northern Territory and the Barkly, spoke about how he looked forward to building a strong team that listens to and is a strong voice for residents and to start planning for the future of the Barkly region over the next four years. “The aim is to work collaboratively with both councillors and communities to provide open, responsive and accountable government across the region to improve services and facilities for the benefit of all residents and visitors,” he said. Barkly Regional Council congratulates the Mayor, newly appointed Deputy Mayor and elected members and looks forward to working towards making the Barkly the preferred location to live, work, visit and invest in.
