Wellington Shire Council is calling for expressions of interest from locals who are proud of their veggie gardens to participate in the Open Veggie Garden Day. The event is set to display some of the best vegetable gardens across the Shire.

Now in its fifth year, the open day provides an opportunity for Wellington Shire community members to visit participating private vegetable gardens that will be open to the public, as well as share vegetable garden inspiration and ideas.

In previous years, the event has received a high level of interest from the community, with garden owners providing inspiration for sustainable, water wise and organic gardening solutions.

“The Open Veggie Garden Day has proved to be extremely popular with residents in previous years, and we’re proud to be running this event once again in 2017,” said Wellington Shire Council Mayor, Carolyn Crossley.

This year, up to nine local gardens will be selected to participate in the open day, and will provide visitors with inspiration and ideas for successfully growing vegetables at home.

“We are expecting a great level of interest from the local community again this year, and we hope to showcase a range of vegetable gardens from across the region.

“We would like to encourage local green thumbs to get involved and consider opening their vegetable garden to the community,” said Mayor Crossley.

The Shire is looking to attract applications from a diverse range of garden owners, that offer different sizes and character. From the gardening novice, through to the garden guru.

Expressions of interest are now being taken for residents who wish to open their vegetable garden to the public.

The open day is currently planned for Saturday 23 September, with applications closing on Friday 1 September 2017.
